In a nutshell: Buy a ready made vinegar mother if you want to speed up your vinegar production in your new vinegar pot or barrel.
Our vinegar mother will kick start your vinegar production, just add a bottle of one of our 'live' unpasteurised vinegars, a bottle of wine and the mother into your pot or barrel. Made of cellulose and acetobacter bacteria (mycoderma aceti ), the vinegar mother will help with your home vinegar production. Do not touch with any metal objects such as a spoon or fork if checking the vinegar mother in the barrel or pot. It's far better to use your hand to carefully pull the vinegar mother out of the barrel or pot if you want to check on her growth spurts!
Note that we carefully pack every mother in a container which is then vac-packed for extra protection and shipped safely to you.
How to use:
- To make red wine vinegar, we recommend buying and using a bottle of either our Banyuls, Nero d'Avola or other 'live' unpasteurised red wine vinegar.
- To make white wine vinegar, we recommend buying and using a bottle of either our White Banyuls or Catarratto or other 'live' unpasteurised white wine vinegar.
- To make cider vinegar, we recommend buying and using a bottle of our Apple Cider vinegar with mother or other 'live' unpasteurised cider vinegar.
